Tomato nursery Den Berk, based in Merksplas, is currently developing the third stage of its expansion plans, with an expansion in the cultivation area that will provide them with 4.8 new hectares.
As in the first and second stage, the company has granted the project to Koen Lauwerysen and Luc Beirinckx of Looije Agro Technics, who have been commissioned to handle the entire process.
Looije Agro Technics in charge of the construction. Havecon, Cogas Zuid, Hortiplan, Holland Scherming, Meteor Systems, Alfen, Jenbacher, Stolze, Gavita, Jochems and Schellekens are also involved.
In this new section, Den Berk will make use of artificial lighting to be able to supply its high quality tomatoes all year round. To this end, the CHP capacity will be expanded with a Jenbacher 4.4 MW installation. Just like with the second stage, an investment will be made in anti-reflective and diffused glass. On its website www.denberk.be Den Berk gives a clear picture of its vision and operation.
