White paper by Delta-T Devices:

Can temperature correction of substrate moisture measurements improve irrigation?

Cambridge based Delta-T Devices has been conducting research into the effects that substrate temperature has on the accuracy of moisture measurements.

They have developed a temperature correction algorithm suitable for use in soil-free substrates that accounts for the temperature dependent dielectric properties of water. It delivers substrate moisture responses that are well aligned with environmental drivers such as solar radiation and vapour pressure deficit.

The resulting white paper points towards ways of obtaining more accurate substrate moisture data - enabling improved irrigation regimes.
