US: UA team working on way to grow fresh vegetables on the moon

In Gene Giacomelli's world, a large University of Arizona greenhouse is his office.

"The technology that's in greenhouses today, commercially used, was developed in part by us," said Giacomelli, who's the director of the UA's Controlled Environment Agriculture Center.

He and his team of scientists and engineers find ways to grow more vegetables, using less water and less energy to ultimately feed more people.

"There's a lot of interest because it can provide fresh, locally grown [vegetables,]" he said. "You can put a greenhouse almost anywhere."

And he means anywhere, even on the moon.
