Workshop on Renewable Energy Potential in Kenyan Flower Industry well attended

On 13th and 14th May 2014, the Project Development Programme (PDP) implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with Kenya Flower Council held two workshops on ‘Harnessing Renewable Energy Potential in the Kenyan Flower Industry’. The events provided an opportunity for flower farms to explore the renewable energy potential of the Kenyan flower industry, to learn about renewable technology solutions and economic benefits as well as to meet respective representatives from solar PV and biogas companies.

The workshops were well attended and granted an opportunity for networking and B2B meetings among the participants which included managing directors of flower farms located in Thika and Isinya, renewable energy companies, financing institutions and interested investors. On both workshop days the participants were invited to join for a site visit to the biogas pilot projects at Simbi Roses Ltd. in Thika and at PJ Dave Flowers Ltd. in Isinya.

In addition, the findings and recommendations of a report commissioned by GIZ entitled “Sungrowers: Harnessing the renewable energy potential in the Kenyan flower industry” were presented.

Flower farms that are interested to learn more about the renewable energy potential of their farm can get in contact with us at [email protected].
