Canada: How to export to Mexico webinar series
Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development (ARD) is holding a free How to Export to Mexico Webinar Series, designed for Alberta value-added agri-food exporters new to the Mexican market.
“You can participate in real time presentations and get answers from the ‘expert’,” says Paola Zaragoza, trade development officer, ARD, Edmonton. “All you need to participate is a computer with internet access and a set of headphones or speakers.”
Mexico is of particular interest due to an increased demand for high-quality value-added products by a growing middle and upper class, and the transformation of the Mexican market’ structure due to the proliferation of modern supermarkets, and an increasing number of high-end tourists resorts and restaurants is resulting in Mexican importers diversifying from traditional supply sources.
“If you are experienced in exporting to the U.S., then Mexico could be the next natural choice of export market,” says Zaragoza. “It is included in NAFTA and most Canadian food products have duty free access, and it can be serviced by land transport. There are numerous opportunities in Mexico for consumer-oriented, value-added foods, for both private label and branded products.”
The webinars will feature presentations from experts in the Mexican market, who will be covering both the market research and opportunities in various regions in Mexico as well as the technical aspects of exporting. There is no cost to participate. The series is broken down as follow:
“Mexico Market Overview and Opportunities”
July 15, 2014, 10 am MST
Speaker: Melanie Spenard, Trade Commissioner, Canadian Embassy in Mexico
Overview of the state of the sector, market opportunities and trends, recommended market entry strategies, and assistance available through the Trade Commissioner Service.

“Regulatory Requirements to Export to Mexico”
