Orto Serre was established in 1999 and its main objective is "growing high-quality produce". It obtained the GlobalGAP certification in 2004. The company covers 60,000 sq m, half of which is protected.
Ortoserre uses the "tomsystem" by Agrifast to support branches.
Orto Serre specialises in the cultivation of soil-less glass-wool "Juanita" cherry tomatoes. Plants are transplanted in March and tomatoes are available between June and November.
Currently, the company is working on Integrated Pest Management to use less pesticides and obtain high-quality produce with the best colour, taste, shape and shelf-life. Pollination is carried out using bumblebees.
"We have started the integrated control programme 2 years ago in cooperation with Koppert Biological System. We use useful insects to control damaging parasites and avoid using chemicals."
At Fruitlogistica Berlin, Orto Serre was presented with a certificate of merit for having taken part in the "Tomato Inspiration Event" 2014.
Orto Serre is also member of the APOC PO.
