Italy: Protect your plants from frost? Arrigoni offers solutions at IPM and Fruit Logistica

We often see constant hoarfrosts during winter nights. Two specific phases have been identified:
  •  Condensation: water vapour condenses on cold surfaces due to the drop in temperature.
  • Freezing: when the temperature of solid surfaces goes below 0°, condensed water freezes.

Is it possible for frost to form even if air temperature does not go below 0°C? Yes, it is. During cold nights with a clear sky, solid surfaces loose temperature much faster, in fact the temperature of plants can be of 15°C below air temperature, so frost forms without the temperature being below 0°C.

Winter phenomena like sudden temperature changes, hoarfrost and strong cold winds are responsible for crop losses even in those areas where temperatures do not go below 0°C, so nets must be used.

The solution from ARRIGONI is ARRICOVER, a knitted transparent net for open fields and also ideal to protect ornamental plants in gardens and nursery gardens.

The advantages:

• It is transparent, so light filters through it in winter
• It is thickly knitted, so parasites like cabbage butterflies and leaf cutworms cannot land on crops
• It is very light, so it can be laid on plants without supports
• It is porous, so excess water can evaporate and the formation of fungal diseases can be avoided
• It is very resistant to both machinery and the strong winds of the Northern countries
• It lasts a long time, so operating and disposal costs are cut

Applications:

Arricover is used to cover leek, carrots, winter salad, cabbage, parsley, sugar beet and fennel.

Arrigoni will attend the following trade fairs, where it will present with its product range and new items:
