Kenya: KFC organzes workshop on corruption in the flower industry

The Kenya Flower Council, in cooperation with the German Development Cooperation implemented by GIZ, has organized a one-and-a-half-day residential workshop scheduled to take place on October 29 (half-day from 12.30 pm) and 30 (full-day) 2013 at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge, Naivasha. The workshop will center on corruption in the flower industry and the Code of Ethics for Business in Kenya as a tool to strengthen integrity and fight corruption.

The purpose of this workshop is twofold:

  1. A study on corruption in the flower industry, with a main focus on identifying the driving factors of corruption by means of key stakeholder interviews with representatives of Kenya Flower Council, senior management representatives of member firms, and key regulators of the industry. The study findings require validation by a broader audience, which shall be the focus of the first day, beginning at lunchtime.
  2. In continuation of the dialogue that began with the awareness session on September 5, 2013, a sensitization session on the same shall provide in-depth understanding of the code, its structure, the commitment it entails and implementation of its principles into everyday business procedures. The aim of this session is to bestow on participants a clear understanding of what is required of them to ensure the code is honoured, and to help them in integrating the commitment into their businesses to meaningfully contribute to the fight against corruption. This shall be the focus of the second day.
