Spain: Eggplant price increased by 660% in August

In August, the price of eggplant has increased by 660%. The price in the store was thus 7.6 times higher than the price the producer received for this it. This according to figures extracted from the monthly price indicator IPOD (Índice de Precios and Origen y Destino de los Alimentos), the union of Spanish consumers UCE and the federation of housewives, consumers and users CEACCU.

Zucchini prices in August also soared, the increase being 632%, or 7.32 times. The price of the Sandia melon, an important summer fruit, rose from with 546% between producer to retail, which is 6.46 times.

For the salad tomato there was a price increase of 409% (5.09 times higher), the green pepper 359% (4.59 times higher) and the red pepper 261% (3.61 times higher). The cucumber rose 376% in price (4.76 times higher), the lettuce 422% (5.22 times higher) and watermelon 241% (3.41 times higher).
