Mexico: Abandoned greenhouses abound

More and more horticultural greenhouse facilities at different points in St. Louis and Soledad aren't being used anymore. There abandoned greenhouses are a result of less availability of irrigation water. It's possible that the rains that have fallen in the State of Potosi aren't enough to use for irrigation.

The plastic and metal structures covering the production sites look torn and in poor condition. Some residents mentioned that farmers were working in these facilities up until recently.

"Recently there were people who went inside and it seemed like they were watering the plants, I imagine that the rains weren't enough for them or maybe people are very lazy, they forgot about this places, decided to go, do something else," said John Smith.
