Italy: Walipini - a €200 selfproduced underground greenhouse to cultivate the whole year round

Building a greenhouse is one of the options in order to cultivate a veggie plot the whole year round, even in the colder months. Usually, greenhouses are made with glass or plastic and require energy and money to be heated. An interesting alternative is Walipini, an underground greenhouse that uses light and heat from the sun even in winter. Walipini is an Indian term meaning "place of warmth". Underground greenhouses had already been built 20 years ago in order to grow plants in the cold South American mountain regions. It is a method that enables growers to have a productive vegetable plot the whole year round, even during winter.
