Japan: 700 watermelons stolen from greenhouse

Japanese police officials said Monday they are looking for whoever stole 700 watermelons from a farm in Ibaraki Prefecture over the weekend. According to police, the melons were being grown in a plastic greenhouse on a farm in Chikusei when they were stolen sometime between late Saturday and early Sunday morning. TV Asahi reported that the haul has been valued at around 2700 euro's.

The grower told media: “When someone steals all you’ve worked hard to create, it’s unforgivable.” Police say that farm thefts are common in the area, but that no suspects have yet been identified.
