Plastic greenhouses: double or single plastic?

In recent years, greenhouses using plastic foil as cover have come to attention. However, there are still a lot of questions about this kind of covering. There has been double plastic foil in the walls for a while, but the question remains whether this is desirable for the roof.

At Belgium research centre Inagro, greenhouses with plastic foil have been in use since 2011. In the last two years, tests were conducted on the influence of the double plastic foil in the greenhouse roof on the red coloration of red lettuce varieties and on energy consumption. By installing calorimeters at the end of 2012, energy consumption could now be quantified.

Read about the trial design and the full report on the website of Inagro.
