Greenhouse covered with diffuse glass with AR-Coating

Netherlands: Grower Agro Care starts construction of fifth phase (9.5 ha)

Greenhouse constructor Havecon just started with the construction of a new greenhouse for Dutch grower Agro Care, in Middenmeer, North Holland. Agro Care's director, Kees van Veen is enthusiastic about the new expansion. "We are blessed with the start of the construction of our planned expansion."

The new 9.5 hecatre expansion will be equipped with diffuse glass that has an AR-Coating. Because the biggest part of Agro Care's tomato crops are being cultivated with assimilation light, the grower is expecting to be able to serve the market in week 40-50. "Normally there is a production gap at that time," Kees van Veen said. "We hope that we can harvest our crops in those weeks, thanks to the diffuse glass. Aside of this, we hope that we can control the crop even better, with a better overall quality as a result."

Agro Care is one of the biggest greenhouse growers in the Netherlands. Currently their acreage is spread over two locations. One is in the province of Zealand, (Rilland) and one is situated in North-Holland (Wieringermeer, location Middenmeer).

For Agro Care, it all started with the construction of a 3.3 hectare greenhouse in Rilland in 1997. Within 7 years, these operations expanded quite fast to an acreage of 24.1 hectare in 2004.

In 2007 the company bought 70 hectare lot in Wieringermeer, North-Holland. In that year the first 19 hectare of their Middenmeer operations were constructed (Phase 1&2). In 2009 phase three was completed (9.5 hectare) and in 2011 phase for was completed (9.5 hectare). When phase 5 will be completed, their Middenmeer greenhouse operations will conduct 47.5 hectare. That makes Agro Care's total acreage 71.6 hectare.
