Heavy storms causes Dutch greenhouse to collapse

Dutch greenhouse grower Albert Beijer lost an entire greenhouse complex last Friday as a result of a wind storm. His plant nursery couldn't handle the heavy wind on Friday afternoon and collapsed. Another greenhouse from the grower did not collapse, but was enormously damaged and many window panes were broken.

A video interview with the grower ( In Dutch)

Beijer lost a third of his entire crop, which is estimated at 400,000 Euro. The damage to the greenhouse is estimated at another 400,000 Euro.

Besides the greenhouse of Beijer, also damaged occurred at other plant nurseries and vegetable growers in Huissen was extensive. The total damage at the horticultural area of Huissen is estimated to be million of euros.

Due to the bad situation in Dutch horticulture, some growers are capitalizing their empty greenhouses as parking lots. Thisgreenhouse was fully parked when it collapsed last weekend
