CambridgeHOk successfully completed the first top lighting and interlighting installation for Melrow Salads hosted by Flavourfresh at their Lansdale Nurseries. The combination of Philips' new top lighting LED module together with the already proven interlighting module was combined for the first time in a commercial installation.
The aims of the project are to evaluate the advantages of LED lit production over conventional production. Each of the 3 separate layers of lights are able to be turned on and off relative to radiation sum via the Priva computer. The trial was planted on the 16th December using pinched twin headed plants with flower just breaking. On the 19th the plants had settled in well and we started to ramp up the temperatures. By Monday 23rd the plants had 50% first truss in flower.
According to a news release on their website, Cambridge HOK will continue to monitor and relate back to the trials at Wageningen being conducted this year where there is a direct comparison between SONT and interlighting versus LED top lighting and interlighting.
