The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association has officially convened the 10th edition of the Hortiflora Expo in Addis Ababa, bringing together key players from across the global horticulture industry.
The three-day international expo has attracted a diverse mix of participants, including producers, exporters, seed suppliers, global buyers, financial institutions, technology providers, logistics firms, policymakers, researchers, and academics from more than 50 countries. The event underscores Ethiopia's rising position as a global horticulture powerhouse.
The country is now among the world's leading producers of cut flowers, generating between 500 and 600 million USD annually and ranking as Africa's second-largest exporter in the sector. Horticulture has become a cornerstone of Ethiopia's economy, standing as the second-largest foreign exchange earner after coffee within the agricultural sector.
In the last fiscal year alone, the subsector generated 564.89 million USD in export revenue, with flowers contributing approximately 80 percent of total earnings. Industry leaders point to ongoing policy, regulatory, and directive reforms as key drivers of future growth.
