Ukraine is preparing to implement the Smart Harvest project aimed at developing hydroponic greenhouse production in the Khmelnytskyi and Lviv regions in cooperation with partners from the Netherlands.
In the Khmelnytskyi region, the project focuses on creating innovation hubs for hydroponic cultivation of vegetables, berries and leafy greens. Plans include the construction of high- and medium-technology greenhouses as well as vertical hydroponic modules. Demonstration sites will provide farmers with practical access to modern growing systems, while a training centre and the Greenhouse Business School platform will offer education and advisory support.
The initiative also includes a social component, creating employment and business opportunities for veterans, internally displaced persons and women. Implementation is planned to continue until 2029.
In the Lviv region, the project will be developed within the Bibrka community. Plans include building demonstration hydroponic greenhouses and launching a training centre for farmers and new entrants to greenhouse production. The infrastructure phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year, followed by training programs, advisory support and development of agricultural clusters.
The project is implemented with the participation of international partners, including a Dutch greenhouse technology company, and is financed by the government of the Netherlands.
Both regions focus on technology transfer and practical training in hydroponic greenhouse production. The project aims to expand the use of modern cultivation methods and improve the competitiveness of local producers.
