Veganic launches Food Care program to support low residue fruit and vegetable production

Veganic, a biotechnology company specializing in innovative vegan and cruelty free biosolutions for agriculture, has announced the launch of Veganic Food Care, a new strategic initiative developed together with growers, supermarkets, and retail chains to promote safer and more sustainable food production aligned with evolving consumer expectations.

"The program is based on the implementation of complete Integrated Pest Management protocols and advanced soil health strategies," the company explains. "These actions make it possible to significantly reduce the use of synthetic chemicals, improve the environmental footprint of agricultural production, strengthen food safety, and support growers in adopting production models based on biological control and soil microbiota enhancement. All of this contributes to higher productivity and improved final quality of fruits and vegetables within a framework of technical and scientific collaboration."

"With this model, Veganic connects growers, distributors, and supermarkets to facilitate compliance with regulatory requirements regarding maximum residue limits, reduce reputational risks within the food chain, and ensure greater consistency and traceability in fruit and vegetable supply."

A model designed to reduce residues from field to consumer
Veganic Food Care proposes a collaborative approach that integrates customized agronomic management programs designed by the Veganic technical team together with participating growers and implemented directly at the farm level.

The system combines biocontrol tools, integrated pest management strategies, and soil microbiota enhancement, aligned with the company's Veganic Planet Care initiative. The objective is to move toward agricultural systems that rely less on synthetic chemical products while improving resistance management for certain pests and diseases.

For supermarkets and distribution chains, the model offers several key advantages, including:

  • Compliance with regulatory requirements and maximum residue limits
  • Reduced risk of commercial rejection and reputational damage
  • Greater consistency and traceability within the supply base
  • Alignment with sustainability and quality standards
  • Field level implementation managed by the specialized Veganic technical team together with farm agronomists

Through this approach, retailers can ensure that production meets their standards without directly managing technical operations on farms.

Field results presented in Almería
As an initial demonstration of the program's impact, Veganic presented the results of its Open Days held in Almería in February, where a successful case study was validated in snack cucumber cultivation under real production conditions.

According to the trial results, the program delivered several measurable improvements in sustainability and agronomic efficiency:

  • 55% reduction in the use of synthetic chemical products
  • Equivalent pest and disease control efficacy
  • 10 times lower residue levels at harvest
  • 60% reduction in environmental impact
  • 60% reduction in chemical active substances
  • 13% increase in production
  • Improved farm profitability with a positive return on investment of nearly €1 per m²

"These data demonstrate that it is possible to move toward more sustainable production systems while maintaining and even improving grower competitiveness," the company states.

Toward safer and more sustainable food production
With the launch of Veganic Food Care, Veganic reinforces its commitment to promoting agricultural models that support safer, more transparent, and more responsible food production, aligned with the expectations of consumers, retailers, and regulators.

The initiative forms part of the company's broader goal of contributing to a better world for future generations by encouraging agricultural practices that reduce environmental impact and improve food quality from the source.
