Patrick Niederer, Lock Drives

"The difference lies in the technology"

In the greenhouse industry, internal screens, partition walls and wrapping systems are essential for effective climate control. The technology behind these roll screen systems therefore needs to be reliable and well designed. According to Patrick Niederer of Lock Drives, achieving this is not straightforward. "The drive must be able to work with existing motors and systems in the greenhouse and integrate seamlessly with the roll system itself. That requires a solution that is technically robust, easy to integrate and built for a long service life."

Tubular motors as a solution
Niederer considers tubular motors to be a suitable and flexible solution for these applications, although the effectiveness depends strongly on selecting the right technology. "The tubular motor itself is not a new invention, but the required integration with existing greenhouse systems makes it a complex solution."

Environmental conditions and the specific application of the tubular motor therefore play an important role in determining the most suitable setup for a greenhouse. "We see our tubular motors as an ideal solution for our HWA drives and EWA motors, but we focus particularly on flexible integration with existing systems so that growers can operate their roll screen systems optimally," he explains.

Examples include a variable cable outlet that can be positioned in two different directions, as well as a range of adapters that allow the tubular motor to be integrated flexibly into different systems.

Long service life
Because tubular motors are highly integrated into existing installations, maintenance can be challenging. For this reason, Lock Drives places strong emphasis not only on flexible integration but also on the use of maintenance-free components.

"All choices made during the development of tubular motors at Lock must contribute to high reliability and a long service life," says Niederer. "That is why Lock Drives offers a two-year factory warranty on its tubular motors. This is unique in the market and provides growers with additional security."
