Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania:

First regional tomatoes expected in late April/early May

Barther Hahn Gemüsebau GmbH started planting for this year's growing season on February 12. In contrast to previous years, the 2026 planting period lasted three weeks in stages and came to an end on Thursday (February 26) with the arrival of the last two semi-trailers and the planting of their cargo. The restructuring of the schedule made it possible to significantly optimize the process, explained managing director Wolfgang Hahn, who will hand over management of the largest Barth-based company to his son later this year.

A total of 70,000 double-stem tomato plants are now growing in the 6.6-hectare greenhouse. "I hope that we will have the first tomatoes in our range at the end of April/beginning of May," said sales manager Marcel Schulz, who does not want to commit to a date, however, because "it all depends on how much sun we get in the upcoming weeks."
