Last year, the price of peppers nearly doubled from origin to destination

According to a report by Hortoinfo, based on data from the Andalusian Regional Government's Price and Market Observatory, in 2025, the average wholesale price of peppers nearly doubled what was paid to producers.

Last year, growers sold their peppers at an average of 1.23 euros per kilogram, excluding VAT, when delivered to warehouses or marketers, across all types and categories. In wholesale markets, the same peppers averaged 2.08 euros per kilogram, a 69.2% increase compared to the price at origin.

In 2024, the average price paid to the grower was 1.01 euros per kilogram, while in wholesale markets it was 1.80 euros per kilogram, reflecting a 78.4% increase from origin to destination.

Over the past decade, the price difference between the origin and wholesale markets reached its widest margins in 2022, with a 95.28% jump; in 2018, with an 88.17% increase; and in 2019, with an 83.28% increase.
