Greenhouse area and tomato production decline in Azerbaijan in 2025

In 2025, Azerbaijan recorded 2,995 greenhouses with a total area of 1,500 hectares, compared with 3,037 greenhouses (1,600 hectares) a year earlier. Over the year, the number of facilities decreased by 42, and the total area shrank by 100 hectares.

Production volumes also changed significantly. Greenhouse tomato output fell from 224,900 tonnes to 156,800 tonnes, a decrease of 68,100 tonnes year-on-year. Cucumber production declined from 11,600 tonnes to 7,500 tonnes. Lemon production decreased slightly, from 55 tonnes to 52 tonnes, while onion output remained almost unchanged.

At the same time, production increased for several crops. Mushroom output reached 1,800 tonnes, strawberry production rose to 241.1 tonnes, and volumes of eggplants and peppers also increased. Potatoes and cabbage were not reflected in the 2025 statistics.

The main share of greenhouse production was concentrated in the Khazar, Shamkir, Absheron and Salyan districts, among others.

Despite lower production, exports of fresh tomatoes grew. Export volumes reached 172,860 tonnes, up 18.72% year-on-year, with a total value of $192.47 million. The average export price stood at $1,113 per tonne, down 7.56%. Russia remained the largest export market for Azerbaijani tomatoes.
