Creating a complete growing system for 30 acres of sweet peppers

For Under Sun Acres, Meteor Systems delivered a fully tailor-made growing system for the company's Phase 3 expansion, completed in 2025. From its facility in Leamington, Canada, Meteor Systems supplied more than 75,000 metres of growing gutters, including suspension systems, drain water collection, and irrigation.

The project focused on sweet peppers and featured GM-05 gutters combined with the Supertif irrigation system. Located in Leamington, Canada, Under Sun Acres cultivates sweet peppers in what is widely known as the heart of North America's greenhouse industry. The 30-acre expansion represents the third growth phase for this progressive grower, with Meteor Systems providing the complete growing system.

As with previous projects, the solution was engineered to meet the customer's specific requirements. The high-end suspended growing system includes more than 625 rows of GM-05 steel growing gutters, which were roll-formed on site into seamless, single-piece gutters for each row. The gutters were manufactured to the customer's specifications, measuring 250 mm in width with a steel thickness of 0.7 mm.

The system also features a custom suspension structure made of galvanized steel, supporting the gutters at 4.5-metre intervals. A complete stainless steel drain water collection system was installed, including end caps with the Under Sun Acres logo laser-cut into them.

In addition, a precision drip irrigation system was supplied, equipped with Sunblock tubes, Supertif pressure-compensating and self-closing drippers, and Wing Peg plant stakes. The Supertif irrigation system ensures highly uniform and precise water delivery from the first to the last plant in each row. Regardless of variations in water pressure, each plant receives the same amount of water. Self-closing membranes prevent drainage, while the integrated self-flushing mechanism reduces the risk of clogging. All irrigation systems are manufactured and fully pre-assembled in Meteor Systems' own facilities, enabling fast and reliable installation on site.

Meteor Systems' sales specialist, Ryan Bento, visited the greenhouse shortly after the plants arrived.
