Khatlon region expands greenhouse vegetable production in Tajikistan in 2025

In 2025, vegetables were cultivated on 2,495.7 hectares of permanent and seasonal greenhouses in Tajikistan's Khatlon Region, according to the regional administration.

Total greenhouse output reached 75,200 tonnes, including 24,500 tonnes of tomatoes, 21,000 tonnes of cucumbers, and 29,500 tonnes of other vegetables.

The expansion of greenhouse production is aimed at supplying the domestic consumer market with fresh, locally grown produce throughout the year.

One of the facilities operates in the Hiloli rural jamoat of Khurason District. The greenhouse was built by local entrepreneur Makhmadyusuf Olimov and currently provides employment for eight residents.

Cucumbers are a popular crop in Tajikistan, growing well in hot summers and mild winters. While traditionally grown in open fields between April and October, modern greenhouses allow year-round cultivation, ensuring stable yields. The continental climate with warm days and cool nights suits cucumber growth. Greenhouse production is expanding, boosting both domestic supply and exports.
