Cold weather continues to weigh on greenhouse yields across Southern Spain

Almería
In pepper greenhouses, harvesting continues across all varieties, with volumes adjusted to market prices and plants either maintained or cut back depending on commercial strategy.

Long cycle cherry and cocktail tomatoes continue to develop and set fruit normally, although at a slightly slower pace due to low temperatures. The few short cycle plantings are coming to an end and are generally being replaced by watermelon crops.

Eggplant harvesting continues, although yields are lower due to low nighttime temperatures, and new plantings have been carried out.

Long cycle cucumbers, both French type and short type, continue their growth toward the spring campaign, although yields have been negatively affected by the cold.

For zucchini, winter varieties remain in harvest. Some early plantings are being removed to make room for melon, watermelon, or a new zucchini cycle. The drop in temperatures has reduced yields and may cause fruit set issues. Transplanting continues and the first productions are starting.

Planting of melon and watermelon is beginning, protected with thermal blankets, tunnels, or double roofing. In nurseries, watermelons and melons are being grafted, and batches of zucchini and cucumber are being prepared.

Cádiz
In the Sanlúcar Chipiona area, zucchini crops are under harvest, with low production levels and the presence of diseases.

Granada
In Albuñol, cherry tomatoes planted in September are being harvested, with yields of around 6 kg per square meter. High humidity under plastic has led to the appearance of downy mildew and Botrytis.

The green bean campaign has reached approximately 50 percent of total production, with yields of around 1 kg per square meter.

Huelva
Strawberry plots have been affected by excessive humidity and recent storms, with damage to infrastructure. Harvesting is complicated by high Botrytis pressure and the inability to carry out treatments for several weeks.

Málaga
In Vélez Málaga, long black eggplant varieties are showing low yields, while Japanese varieties remain within normal parameters, as they are more rustic and better adapted to climatic conditions.

In cucumber crops of the Dutch variety, fruit damage is being observed, affecting production, which currently stands at around 4 to 5 kg per square meter. In areas such as Torrox, greenhouse tomato crops are also showing limited yields of 4 to 5 kg per square meter, below what would be expected at this stage of the season.
