Spanish tomatoes better prices in January as Dutch prices drop

The average tomato price in the European Union in January 2026 was slightly higher than the record level recorded in January 2025. The average price reached €2.09 per kilogram, according to an update of the European Commission's tomato dashboard.

Cluster tomato prices were particularly strong. In the Netherlands, prices were 5% higher than in January 2025, but remained 9% below the five-year average. In Spain, Italy and France, prices were 9% to 11% above the five-year average.

At an average price of €1.69 per kilogram, Dutch cluster tomatoes were priced higher than Italian (€1.65 per kilogram) and Spanish (€1.31 per kilogram) product.

For loose round tomatoes, Spanish prices were significantly above the five-year average, at +21%, according to the European Commission data. In the Netherlands, prices were 22% below the five-year average.

Average prices were relatively close, at €1.18 per kilogram in Spain and €1.16 per kilogram in the Netherlands.
