TuProTec, a Dutch horticultural consultancy firm, marks its 30th anniversary. The company has been active in the greenhouse sector since its establishment in 1996.
"Many people do not realize that TuProTec is an abbreviation of Tuinbouw Projecten Techniek (Horticultural Projects Engineering)," says owner Lies van Geest. "That is also where the origins of our company lie."
After many years working in horticulture, where numerous new-build projects were sold, supervised, and completed, TuProTec was founded as an independent consultancy. Its focus from the outset has been to guide and advise growers on new construction and renovation projects. "Thirty years later, we are still doing the same work, with the same level of commitment and involvement," Van Geest says.

Projects at home and abroad
Over the past three decades, TuProTec has supported a wide range of projects together with its clients. These include projects such as Tuincentrum Onings in The Hague and Plantenkwekerij Noordam in 's-Gravenzande. The consultancy has also been involved internationally in both new greenhouse developments and the renovation of existing horticultural operations.

Innovative horticulture with energy-efficient lighting, focused on optimal growth and minimal energy consumption.
Project sizes have varied considerably. "From our smallest project of 270 square meters to a 380-hectare development completed over five years," Van Geest explains. "Whether it involved tomato production, chrysanthemum cultivation, or even a butterfly garden, we always worked closely with the owners, whether they were growers or investors."
Cultivation, technology, and collaboration
According to Van Geest, this close cooperation and the progressive approach of clients have contributed to a number of innovative projects, including Mobisant (mobile chrysanthemum cultivation), Pligt Professionals, Sun Plant, Hong Fu Food, Aquagrow, and Plantenkwekerij Noordam.

Technical innovations in greenhouse industry
In addition to project management, TuProTec has been involved in several technical developments within the greenhouse industry. "We contributed to the development of mobile chrysanthemum cultivation systems, worked with Hallet on a more sustainable UV disinfection unit, supported the introduction of ozone-based water treatment, designed air purification systems such as the Airmaster and Airliner, and collaborated on the Gentle Green concept, which enables energy savings of up to 80 percent," Van Geest says.

TuProTec continues to focus on reducing energy, labor, and water use. The company is also working on improving water and air treatment systems to reduce the need for crop protection products and is involved in innovative greenhouse concepts such as the Box-in-Box greenhouse. The aim is to lower energy consumption, increase production, and create a more stable greenhouse climate.
"We look to the future with confidence and are proud of the trust our clients have placed in us over the past 30 years," Van Geest concludes.
