Mycotal now registered in Germany: "reliable whitefly control even at low temperatures"

Mycotal, the biological insecticide based on Akanthomyces muscarius Ve6, has now been officially registered in Germany. In Germany, Mycotal is registered exclusively for whitefly control in protected crops. Germany is the most recent country to approve the product, with registrations in Hungary, Poland and many other European countries expected soon.

Effective even in winter: Mycotal active from 5 °C
Whiteflies can survive throughout the winter inside greenhouses, even when temperatures are low. New research by Koppert reveals that Mycotal remains active, growing, and effective at temperatures as low as 5 °C. This makes Mycotal unique among commercially available entomopathogenic fungi.

"Our research demonstrates that Mycotal is already effective at very low temperatures," says Cyrille Verdun, Product Manager at Koppert. "For growers working in colder production systems, such as strawberries or nursery crops, this provides an important opportunity to reduce pest pressure early and start the new season clean."

Overwintering pests such as whitefly and Thrips can quickly build up once temperatures rise. Treating these pests in winter, when pressure is still low, helps growers maintain clean crops and gives beneficial insects a head start before new pests enter the greenhouse later in the season.

A natural, safe and versatile tool in integrated pest management
Mycotal contains blastospores of Akanthomyces muscarius Ve6. After spraying, these spores germinate rapidly and penetrate the pest's body, ultimately causing mortality.

Key benefits of Mycotal include:

  • Completely Safe for beneficial insects: well-suited for integrated IPM programs.
  • Easy to apply: compatible with standard spraying equipment.
  • Flexible: tank-mix compatible with a wide range of plant protection products.
  • Residue-free: helps growers meet increasingly strict value-chain requirements.
