WNL is celebrating its twentieth anniversary. What began as a bold idea by founder Gert Hollaar to serve the horticultural market independently has evolved into an innovative player on the global stage. Today, the company's trajectory is co-shaped by Managing Director Czander Dubbeld. "Our strength lies in combining that authentic Dutch 'no-nonsense' mentality with high-end innovations for the international market."
The origins of WNL lie in Gert's ambition. "At the time, I was working for a construction company, but I saw significant opportunities in trade," Gert reflects. To avoid competing directly with his former employer, he founded WNL - a name derived from 'Westland' and 'Netherlands.' What started with competitive pricing and a 'can-do' attitude quickly grew into a serious enterprise that doubled its turnover year after year.
For Gert, the milestones were tangible. "Purchasing our own land at the Oranjekanaal was a turning point. That's when I thought: this is really going somewhere." While WNL is now a household name in the sector, its down-to-earth culture remains. "When I drive through Leamington, Canada, and see greenhouses everywhere featuring our cranked roof systems, I feel a genuine sense of pride as a farmer's son. Work hard, don't complain, and stay grounded."
Innovating in the industry
At WNL, this pragmatic approach goes hand in hand with technical innovation. Crucial decisions from the past, such as investing in an in-house press brake to reduce dependency, laid the foundation for their current role as experts. Today, WNL distinguishes itself with high-quality systems.
"The WNL EasyJoint™ is our flagship product: globally patented and unique in its kind," says Czander. "But our strength also lies in the details: from our multifunctional cranked roof system to the WNL-Tex fastening solution." With its own folding shop, aluminum processing, and full logistics, WNL maintains control over the entire supply chain. "That makes us fast and reliable," Czander adds. "We have an immense amount of in-house knowledge, but we should probably shout it from the rooftops more often."

Stronger together
Although Czander joined eighteen months ago to help steer the company's course, it doesn't feel like a departure for Gert. "I am still involved daily in product development and client relations. The commitment remains." According to both men, the company culture is the key to success. Gert compares the organization to gears in a machine: "Every gear is equally important. If one person thinks they are more important than the rest, the whole system jams. We achieve this together with our employees, loyal customers, and partners."
Focus on the future
WNL's gaze is now firmly fixed on the future, particularly the North American market. The mission is clear: contributing to the global food chain through smart construction solutions.
"The challenge isn't just producing more food, but doing so in an energy-efficient, safe, and reliable way," Czander explains. "Our solutions enable rapid renovation and construction in areas where light is not a requirement. In this way, we contribute to food security without requiring massive investments."
Gert and Czander look toward the next twenty years with great confidence. The combination of authentic Dutch pragmatism and their role as global experts ensures that the road ahead for WNL is wide open.
