Filipino greenhouse facilities funded by Angat Buhay in the towns of Ajuy and Concepcion, Iloilo, were formally turned over on Jan. 30 to support community feeding programs for malnourished children. The turnover, led by the Iloilo provincial government, aligns with Executive Order No. 40, series of 2025, issued by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., which institutionalized the Sipag at Tiyaga program promoting sustainable agriculture, food sufficiency, and nutrition initiatives.
Provincial officials said the greenhouse facilities are expected to provide a sustainable supply of vegetables to augment feeding programs in beneficiary communities, particularly for undernourished children during their critical developmental years.
With the Ajuy and Concepcion projects, Angat Buhay-supported greenhouse facilities in Iloilo province now total four, following earlier turnovers in the towns of Carles and Cabatuan in 2024.
The initiative was conceptualized after the Hunger Summit held in Iloilo on Aug. 6, 2024, which highlighted the need for collaborative and long-term solutions to hunger and malnutrition in the province.
