A closed school site, which had been neglected for more than 30 years, has been transformed into a smart agricultural base for young farmers. Gangjin-gun announced on the 27th of January that it has created a "Jeonnam YOUNG 農 Smart Complex" using the former Gangjinseo Elementary School's Yeongpa branch site located in Yeongpari, Gangjin-eup, and has started operating a smart farm rental facility.
The site remained idle for an extended period of time after the closure of the school in 1991, with no clear application. Gangjin-gun purchased the school site under the idea of converting unused assets scattered in the region into a future agricultural base, and accelerated the project as it was selected for a public offering project to create a farming smart complex in Jeollanam-do last year.
YOUNG 農 Smart Complex in Jeollanam-do is a smart farm complex for young farmers with a total of 3 billion won invested from 2024 to 2025. Along with three smart greenhouses, auxiliary facilities such as Living Lab, which are in charge of education and demonstration functions, were built on the 9,250㎡ site. Living Lab is an experimental space that directly tests and applies technology in agricultural sites, and is a device to enhance the adaptability of young farmers to the field.
ICT-based smart agricultural technologies such as complex environmental control systems and automatic irrigation and liquid supply facilities were applied inside the greenhouse.
