Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable exports fall in volume but grow in value through November 2025

Spanish exports of fresh fruit and vegetables declined by 3 percent in volume between January and November 2025 compared with the same period in 2024, reaching a total of 10.6 million tonnes. The decrease was mainly driven by a 6 percent drop in vegetable exports, while fruit volumes remained broadly stable. In value terms, however, total exports rose by 5 percent to 16.601 billion euros, according to data from the Department of Customs and Excise Duties, published by the Secretary of State for Trade at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business and processed by Fepex.

Vegetable exports up to November amounted to 4.7 million tonnes, down 6 percent year on year. Cucumber was the most exported vegetable and also showed the strongest performance, increasing by 5 percent to 658,535 tonnes. Most other vegetables recorded declines over the same period.

After cucumber, pepper ranked second by export volume, down 7 percent to 648,708 tonnes, followed by lettuce, which fell by 1 percent to 642,165 tonnes. Tomato recorded the sharpest drop among major vegetables, with exports down 15 percent to 499,220 tonnes.

Fruit exports totalled 5,949,427 tonnes through November, virtually unchanged from the 5,944,392 tonnes exported during the same period in 2024.

Citrus fruit remained the leading export category, with oranges in particular reaching one million tonnes, up 7 percent year on year. Watermelon followed with 818,674 tonnes, up 4 percent, while melon exports increased by 10 percent to 370,379 tonnes. Strawberry exports also rose by 4 percent to 263,384 tonnes.

Stone fruit continued to represent significant export volumes, although declines were recorded during the period analysed. Nectarine exports fell by 2 percent to 332,615 tonnes, while flat peach declined by 10 percent to 183,571 tonnes. Peach exports remained broadly stable at 146,650 tonnes, down just 0.1 percent.

In value terms, Spanish fruit and vegetable exports increased by 5 percent to a total of 16.601 billion euros. Of this, fruit accounted for 9.527 billion euros, an 8 percent increase, while vegetables reached 7.074 billion euros, the same level as in the previous year.

The data from the Department of Customs and Excise Duties of the Spanish Tax Agency, processed by Fepex, cover only fresh fruit and vegetable exports recorded under tariff chapters 07 and 08. While these chapters are dominated by fresh produce, they also include legumes, nuts and some processed fruit categories, which are not included in Fepex's statistical analysis.
