Almería accounts for six out of ten peppers exported by Spain

Almería accounts for six out of every ten peppers exported by Spain, consolidating its position as the country's main export hub for this product. This is according to Hortoinfo, based on data from Estacom (ICEX–Spanish Tax Agency), corresponding to the TARIC codes of the Integrated Tariff of the European Communities.

Between 1 January and 31 October 2025, the province of Almería exported 366.06 million kilos of peppers, representing 60.68 percent of Spain's total export volume. This figure marks a 19.17 percent decline compared with the same period in 2020, when Almería recorded its highest export volume on record at 452.86 million kilos. Despite the drop in tonnage, January to October 2025 set a new historical record in value, with revenues reaching 846.04 million euros and an average price of 2.31 euros per kilo.

At national level, Spanish pepper exports totalled 603.26 million kilos in the first ten months of 2025, down 10.55 percent compared with 2020, which remains the year with the highest export volume, largely driven by shipments from Almería. In value terms, total exports reached 1.355.33 billion euros, with an average price of 2.25 euros per kilo.

Murcia ranked as the second largest exporting province, with 123.93 million kilos shipped abroad between January and October 2025, accounting for 20.54 percent of the national total. These exports generated 251.87 million euros, at an average price of 2.03 euros per kilo. Compared with the same period in 2020, Murcia increased its export volume by 13.48 percent.

Alicante held third place, exporting 31.49 million kilos, equivalent to 5.22 percent of the total, with a value of 64.02 million euros and an average price of 2.03 euros per kilo. However, volumes declined by 3.91 percent compared with the same months in 2020.

Barcelona ranked fourth, with exports of 23.56 million kilos, representing 3.91 percent of the national total. These shipments generated 37.27 million euros, at an average price of 1.58 euros per kilo. In this case, export volumes increased by 25.51 percent compared with 2020.

Valencia completed the top five, exporting 20.6 million kilos during the first ten months of 2025, with a value of 59.99 million euros and an average price of 2.91 euros per kilo. Madrid followed with 8.25 million kilos, while Granada ranked seventh with 5.46 million kilos exported over the period analysed.
