After years of dedication and entrepreneurship, Joost van der Waay, founder of Van der Waay, is leaving the company and retiring. Joost was one of the driving forces behind the development of innovative solutions for cleaning, coating, and maintaining greenhouse roofs.
Joost was one of the founders of the first automatic roof washer for Venlo greenhouses in 1989. What began as an innovative solution to a practical problem grew under his leadership into a thriving company with a strong focus on technology, safety, and ease of use. More than 35 years later, Van der Waay's product range has expanded considerably to include various models of roof washers, chalking machines, service platforms, and glass repair machines. Over the years, solutions for greenhouse roof maintenance have become not only more diverse, but also more technologically advanced and widely used around the world. Through this work, Joost made an important contribution to the professionalization of maintenance in greenhouse horticulture.

Last week, Joost was given a festive send-off by the entire Van der Waay team. During a warm gathering at the company, his impressive career, valuable contributions, and years of dedication were celebrated. As a farewell gift, Joost received the frame of one of the very first roof washers ever built. A large wooden crate, decorated with photos, contained all the parts needed to rebuild this machine. It was a heartfelt farewell, full of wonderful memories and gratitude, and Joost will certainly be missed by the team.
