A large greenhouse complex in Shymkent continues to expand operations, focusing on increasing domestic vegetable production using modern technologies. The project, launched last year, is designed to supply the local market with fresh vegetables throughout the year.
The facility currently employs around 320 workers. Management plans to hire an additional 50–60 employees in the coming months, with recruitment taking place in stages. After full completion, the project is expected to create up to 5,000 jobs.
Vegetables are grown using advanced climate control and irrigation systems, allowing stable production and consistent quality. The total investment in the greenhouse project amounts to approximately $650 million, making it one of the largest protected-cropping initiatives in the region.
Despite active development, producers face several challenges. Locally grown greenhouse vegetables often struggle to compete on price with imported products, which can be cheaper due to lower production costs in exporting countries. Energy costs, inputs, and logistics also remain key cost factors for greenhouse operators.
In the next phase, the company plans to continue expanding production areas, increasing output volumes, and improving operational efficiency. The project aims to strengthen the supply of locally produced vegetables and reduce reliance on imports while maintaining competitive quality standards.
