South Korea: Lotte Mart introduces smart farm vegetables to keep prices stable during cold wave

Lotte Mart announced on the 13th that it will sell perilla leaves and cucumbers grown in smart farms to provide stable quality vegetables even in cold weather.

With the recent winter cold wave, prices of leafy vegetables and fruit vegetables have continued to rise. As a result, Lotte Mart is introducing smart farm cultivation products to provide customers with stable quality vegetables despite such cold weather.

From the 15th to the 21st, Lotte Mart will sell "Tomorrow Farm Perilla leaf (40g)" and "Smart Farm Cucumber (dog)" for KRW 1990 and KRW 1,190, respectively. It will also be introduced in the composition of "Smart Farm Cucumber (5 bites, bong)."

Tomorrow's perilla leaves are vegetables harvested from a smart farm farm with a size of about 5,000㎡ (about 1510 pyeong) located in Geumsan, Chungcheongnam-do. The farmhouse applied an ICT-based cultivation system that automatically controls temperature, humidity, and light volume. Through this, perilla leaves with uniform freshness are stably produced even in the cold wave.

"Smart Farm Cucumber" is imported from smart farm farms in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do and Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do, and is operated in 11 stores, including Zeta Flex Jamsil branch.

Lotte Mart plans to expand its smart farm vegetable operation in the future, focusing on vegetables sensitive to external weather such as perilla leaves and cucumbers, lettuce, and paprika. Accordingly, this year, the amount of smart farm vegetables operated will be increased by 20% compared to the previous year.

Kim Si-eun, MD (product planner) of Lotte Mart and Super Vegetable Team, said, "The market price of leafy vegetables and fruit vegetables has been rising recently as the supply and demand of vegetables is unstable due to the cold wave. We will continue to make efforts to discover CA storage vegetables and alternative production areas as well as smart farm vegetables to provide customers with uniform quality vegetables throughout the year.
