On Saturday, January 3 2026, Taiwan's Penghu County opened its first strawberry field, "Yummy Strawberries," in Dongwei Village, run by a young grower who chose to settle in the county after completing his military service.
CNA reported Saturday that grower Tseng Yu-hsin spent more than a year clearing unused land and setting up the farm with government support. The county's Agriculture and Fisheries Bureau said the project aims to bring idle farmland back into use and encourage young people to go into farming.

Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu said the project opens up a new path for specialty farming in the county. Chen added that the effort adds fresh momentum to the county's farm sector.
The county government said the field covers about 1,916 square meters and has around 5,000 strawberry plants grown on raised beds. Officials said the farm uses drip irrigation, climate control, and pest management to keep production steady.
The bureau said the site will operate on an online booking system and roll out tours, hands-on classes, and food-making activities to tie farming in with tourism and education. Plans also include dessert tie-ups, smart coffee machines, and a pet-friendly layout.
