NL: Naktuinbouw to host Seed Identification Training program in March of 2026

Registration is now open for Naktuinbouw's Seed Identification Training beginners module, taking place on March 25, 26, and 27, 2026. This three-day training is designed for anyone who works with seed samples or has an interest in seed identification. No previous experience is required, making it suitable for lab technicians as well as newcomers to the field.

During the training, participants will learn how to identify seeds and common impurities, a key skill in seed testing and quality control. The course is taught by experienced experts and includes extensive hands-on practice with real seed samples. Participants will also gain access to valuable tools and references, including the Digital Diaspore Atlas. The training covers identification of seeds from 693 species across 105 plant families, with special attention to the nine families most frequently encountered as impurities, such as Apiaceae, Brassicaceae, Fabaceae, Asteraceae, and Poaceae. Practical use of seed reference collections and atlases is emphasized, along with exercises and case studies based on real situations.

Interested participants are encouraged to register before January 28, 2026, as places are limited.

In addition to the Seed Identification Training, several other English-language courses are scheduled for 2026. On March 31, 2026, the course A Guide to Plant Breeders' Rights and Registration Procedures will provide practical guidance on securing and maintaining Plant Breeders' Rights, aimed at breeders, seed companies, and others involved in variety registration. Company Hygiene for Vegetable and Ornamental Crops will be held on April 13, 15, and 17, 2026, focusing on contamination prevention, hygiene protocols, pest and disease management, and risk assessment in greenhouse and production environments. Professional Plant Sampling is scheduled for April 14, 2026, offering practical insight into sampling techniques and their impact on test results and quality standards. Finally, the course Validation and Quality Monitoring will take place on May 20, 2026, covering validation processes and quality monitoring in seed and plant testing.
