Huelva's raspberry area increased by 9%

The Price and Market Observatory of the Andalusian Regional Government's report on the berry sector indicates a partial recovery for the raspberry crop in the 2024/2025 season. However, levels are still below those of 2020/2021. The planting area increased to 1,680 hectares, up 9.1% from 1,540 hectares the previous season, but remains significantly below the 2,349 hectares of 2020/2021. Andalusia accounted for 99% of Spain's raspberry exports.

The report notes that in 2024, Andalusia produced nearly 90% of Spain's raspberries and 17% of the EU's. Poland remained the EU's leading producer at 48.6%, with Portugal rising to second at 18%, surpassing Spain.

The study also highlights changes in other berries, with strawberry cultivation decreasing from 2,170 hectares in 2021/2022 to 1,680 hectares now.

For the 2024/2025 season, total raspberry production reached 32,340 tons, a 9% increase from 2023/2024's 29,673 tons, but still below 2020/2021's 47,287 tons, which was 16.5% higher. Yield per hectare increased to 19.3 tons, exceeding previous years' levels.

Regarding cultivation methods, 65% of Huelva's farms use integrated production, while 16% are organic.

Production was highest between March and May, aligning with the second harvest of remontant varieties and the first of non-remontant varieties. The distribution was more even than usual, primarily due to a smaller spring harvest resulting from heavy rains in March.

Market prices remained above seasonal averages until late April, when abundant supply led to a sharp decline, bringing the season's average below that of 2023/2024.

Spain remains a leading European producer and a major foreign supplier, with the country and Morocco accounting for 48.6% of global raspberry exports. The United States (19.6%), Portugal (12.5%), and the Netherlands (7.5%) follow. The US was the largest importer, representing 51.1% of global imports in 2023.

At the EU level, Spain was the top supplier of fresh raspberries by volume and value, with Andalusia again accounting for 99% of Spain's exports.
