20 new greenhouses are established in Yuksekova

In Yuksekova, a significant number of greenhouses have been constructed this year. 20 greenhouses were built throughout the district, increasing output capacity and enabling growers to carry on with their operations during the winter. The Tuglubay area is known for growing cucumbers, but many other vegetables, such as eggplant, beans, dill, parsley, and tomatoes, are also grown there.

In this regard, the Yuksekova Branch Manager of Ziraat Bank and President of the Yuksekova Chamber of Agriculture, Perviz Gecirgen, visited Tuglubay in the Doski region and spoke with local greenhouse growers. They looked at the production conditions, the state of the greenhouses, and the requirements of the local farmers during their tour.

"Although our Daglica region has a temperate climate, no agricultural work has been done until now," said Perviz Gecirgen, President of the Yuksekova Chamber of Agriculture, who said that the growth of greenhouse farming in the area is a significant step in terms of both production and employment. "The first moves in this direction have been made under the direction of our Governor, Ali Celik, and the greenhouse initiatives created by our Provincial Directorate of Agriculture. We have set up 20 greenhouses at Yuksekova thus far. Our objective is to achieve agricultural self-sufficiency in our district and sustain production even during the severe winter months. We hope to enhance local employment and lessen reliance on outside sources with these initiatives. We aim to train our growers, encourage them to engage in production, and encourage them to stay in the region," Gecirgen added, highlighting the potential of greenhouse farming to lower migration in the area.

According to Cebrail Erci, one of the growers in Tuglu Village who engages in greenhouse farming, the assistance received allowed them to erect a greenhouse for the first time. "Our Governor came and proposed this project to us last year. We developed our greenhouse this year and got assistance. We are grateful to everyone who contributed." Speaking about the production process, Erci stated, "Workers from Adana and Urfa built the greenhouse. I manage the greenhouse by myself. The average temperature inside is 36 degrees. Even though this is our first year, the harvest is excellent. In addition to many other veggies like eggplant, beans, dill, parsley, and tomatoes, we specialize in growing cucumbers. We charge 075 USD per kilogram for cucumbers. Increasing these kinds of programs and incentives is essential to boosting our region's agricultural output."

Muhyettin Tan, another grower, highlighted how greenhouse farming has boosted the community economy, stating, "Production in our village has been revitalized thanks to these greenhouses. We can now grow fresh veggies for ourselves, when in the past we had nothing to do during the winter. We cultivate a variety of vegetables, particularly cucumbers. For the growers, these assistance programmes have been a fantastic opportunity. I hope these initiatives continue to go on and that we can increase production even further. Our goal is to grow."

By expanding its greenhouse projects in the near future, the Yuksekova Chamber of Agriculture hopes to produce a large amount of the district's fruits and vegetables locally. Additionally, Ziraat Bank offers interest-supported, Treasury-backed loans to greenhouse growers so they may keep up their production.
