Geothermal greenhouse project will create 3.500 jobs in Afyon

A Geothermal Greenhouse Organized Agricultural Zone is being created in the districts of Cay, Cobanlar, and Bolvadin under the direction of the Afyonkarahisar Governor's Office and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The proposal will greatly boost employment and the local economy.

The project, which will be constructed on a total area of 291 hectares, would draw investors with its cutting-edge infrastructure, industrial plots, and contemporary greenhouse spaces, according to journalist Ismail Akar. Akar recalled that in early 2025, Governor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kubra Guran Yigitbasi made remarks regarding the project, underlining that greenhouse farming has grown to be a major sector of development in Afyonkarahisar.

Akar said, "This project will reduce migration in the districts and, in particular, increase employment for women." According to journalist Polat Yilmaz, Afyonkarahisar will benefit greatly from the Geothermal Greenhouse Organized Agricultural Zone. Yilmaz stated, "3,500 jobs are expected to be created, and 80% of these employees will be women." Yilmaz emphasized that the project will stop migration in the area, that the parcel studies have been finished, and that the investment in natural energy resources will boost the national and provincial economies.

According to journalist Ahmet Tunca, greenhouse farming has given Afyonkarahisar additional job options. "Taking advantage of thermal waters and starting greenhouse farming will change the fate of Cay, Cobanlar, and Bolvadin. The usage of renewable energy in agriculture will rise when solar and geothermal energy are combined. Afyonkarahisar has the potential to lead this field as well."
