For the Silopi Greenhouse Organized Agricultural Zone, which will be built in the Silopi area of the Basverimli town of Sirnak, infrastructure development has advanced. The project is being carried out on a 94.6-hectare plot in the Basverimli town of Sirnak, about 10 kilometers from the Habur Border Gate. It was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and established in cooperation with the Special Provincial Administration and the Sirnak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TSO). Electricity, sewer, and rainwater lines have been installed, and the greenhouses' development will start the following year. The Silopi greenhouses will produce vegetables that will be exported to Iraq as well as sold domestically.
After examining the work being done in the Silopi Greenhouse Organized Agricultural Zone, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Oktay Sezgin said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry oversaw the development of the project, which was created by the Special Provincial Administration and the Sirnak Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The objective is to finish the infrastructure project in the area by the end of the year, he continued. "Our project is being carried out in collaboration with the Sirnak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Special Provincial Administration, and the Sirnak Governor's Office. Greenhouses will be constructed on 94.6 hectares of land as part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's initiative. In 2025, our initiative received funding via the Presidential Strategy and Budget Department's investment program. On-site infrastructure building is presently taking place."
According to Sezgin, the vegetables grown in the Silopi Greenhouse Organized Industrial Zone would boost the local market in the area and be exported mainly to the Iraqi market. "Our project will create jobs for 1,000 people. Women will make up 75% of the workforce. Our project aims to increase exports, employment, production, and investment. We hope to develop value-added goods for the local economy, generate jobs, and arrange the goods generated for trade in both domestic and Iraqi markets by optimizing the environment of our Silopi district and professionalizing greenhouse operations in the area." According to Sezgin, after the ongoing infrastructural construction is finished, greenhouse installation will start in 2026. "Our women and youth will be the workforce here. This will be a major hub for jobs in the area. The process of building infrastructure is still in progress. The infrastructural project will be finished by the end of the year. After that, we'll finish installing the greenhouse and start producing in the new year."
Osman Gelis, President of the Sirnak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, added: "In our Silopi district, Sirnak, approvals for the greenhouse have been completed under the leadership of our Governor's Office, and the tender has been held. The infrastructure is being constructed quite quickly. We are now constructing a cutting-edge greenhouse in Silopi. We have a market adjacent to the products that will be made by this organized greenhouse industrial zone, and it will significantly improve the quality and quantity of fruits and vegetables in the local market, which will help our community."
