Lenox school officials are exploring the possibility of another hands-on experience for students.
At a recent meeting, the Lenox School Board heard a presentation from the local FFA chapter officers on the possible construction of a new greenhouse for the school district, intended for instructional purposes. Lenox School Superintendent Dave Henrichs tells KMA News that while the local FFA chapter had already been brainstorming ideas for a greenhouse, board members had also expressed interest in the facility during a recent work session--prompting the formal presentation.
"They simply just shared the different sizes and designs as well as the purpose and educational goals," said Henrichs. "That would be to provide some hands-on experiences, which would include hydroponics and community engagement. It also would also provide some opportunities for both construction and fundraising."
One of the more prominent discussions currently, Henrichs says, is where to put the greenhouse. While the initial idea was to place the greenhouse in the middle of the district's campus, west of the school building and east of the football field, Henrichs says there were concerns about access for equipment and security lights interfering with the greenhouse. Thus, the superintendent says the FFA officers proposed an area further west and south of the football field.
