Advancing protected agriculture in St. Kitts and Nevis

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, through the Department of Agriculture, continues to demonstrate its commitment to building a stronger, more resilient agriculture sector with the hosting of a Greenhouse Training Session on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025, at the farm of Mr. Aaron Hodge in Newton Ground, St. Kitts.

The practical session, which brought together farmers, extension officers, and other technical staff, was designed to strengthen technical capacity in protected agriculture — a vital area for food production in changing climatic conditions. Participants gained first-hand experience in climate control management, fertigation techniques, and integrated pest management (IPM) systems used to optimize greenhouse efficiency and improve crop yield.

Facilitator Mr. Aaron Hodge, a leading figure in greenhouse innovation and a multiple awardee at the Food Heroes Awards, shared proven techniques and best practices that have earned him recognition in the Protected Agriculture Category for excellence and consistency in greenhouse crop production.

The training is one in a series of government-led initiatives aimed at upskilling local farmers and strengthening the Ministry's internal technical teams. By ensuring that both farmers and staff are well-trained in climate-smart agricultural practices, the Department is creating a more knowledgeable and resilient support network to guide the sector's continued transformation.
