First fleet of tomato-harvesting robots operating in Dutch greenhouse

In the greenhouse of tomato grower Westburg, several robots are now harvesting snack tomatoes. These are Four Growers robots, which pick the tomatoes from the plant using suction. Just one week after installation, the robot in Westburg's greenhouse was already ready to start harvesting, says grower Bas van Leeuwen.

According to Nick Boelen of Four Growers, the robots are currently achieving up to 50% labor savings. For the robot developer, having a first fleet of operational harvesting robots was an important step in convincing the market of their robotic solution.

The robot, equipped with a Fanuc robotic arm, can harvest snack, plum, and cherry tomatoes. Next year, Four Growers also plans to launch a cucumber-harvesting robot. This robot, however, will not use the suction principle, Nick previously told.
