The Zentralverband Gartenbau (ZVG) explicitly welcomes the reopening of the Federal Energy Efficiency Program. "After a one-year hiatus, the success story of the Federal Energy Efficiency Program can continue," emphasizes ZVG energy expert Gabriele Harring. The promotion of technical innovations in businesses has already led to significant savings for them.
A total of €26 million has been designated for 2026 in the Climate and Transformation Fund (KTF) budget—a significant increase in the volume of funding. The directive runs until December 31, 2029. The ZVG is counting on the funding also being continued in due time. "We see the reopening as an important impetus and want to continue the successful development of the program together with politicians and practitioners," emphasizes Harring.
Since October 1, 2025, the Fachagentur für Nachwachsende Rohstoffe (FNR) has taken over project management from the Federal Ministry. Previously issued notices remain valid, and projects that have already begun will continue as normal. All applications approved under the old directive will continue to be subject to that version. Unfortunately, it is still not permitted to start measures ahead of schedule.
Confirmation of the implementation of measures by an expert can still be subsidized – with up to 50 percent of the eligible net expenditure. In the future, subsidies for battery storage systems and heat exchangers will only be possible with the generation and own use of renewable energies and energy consulting. Potted plant handling systems have been newly added; they will be eligible for funding of up to 20 percent in the future.
Compressors and highly efficient LED lighting systems, as well as energy consultations in connection with a CO2 savings investment, are no longer eligible for funding.
