From January to August, Spain exported 8.2 million tons of fresh fruits and vegetables, a 2% decrease compared to the same period last year. This decline was mainly driven by reduced vegetable exports, especially a 16% drop in tomato exports. Despite the lower volume, the sector's overall value increased by 7.5%, reaching 13,074 million euros.
Vegetable exports in the first eight months declined by 5% to 3.6 million tons, mainly due to a 16% drop in tomato sales from 484,849 to 408,989 tons. The value of tomato exports also decreased by 3%, reaching 730 million euros. Meanwhile, the overall value of vegetable exports increased by 3%, totaling 5,513 million euros, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department, as processed by Fepex.
Between January and August 2025, Spain exported 4.6 million tons of fresh fruits, roughly the same volume as in the same period in 2024, but the export value rose by 11% to 7,561 million euros. Orange and watermelon exports, the most popular fruits during this time, performed especially well. Orange exports reached 944,431 tons (+11%) and generated 904 million euros (+12%). Watermelon exports rose to 757,419 tons (+4%) and 572 million euros (+13%).
Strawberry exports also performed well, reaching 259,966 tons (+3%) and 845 million euros (+9%). Meanwhile, stone fruit exports declined in volume but increased in value. Nectarine exports, for example, decreased by 4% in volume to 258,614 tons and increased by 19% in value to 478 million
