Kazakhstan's largest greenhouse complex in Ekibastuz will expand by 10 hectares to boost tomato production. The facility currently supplies fresh vegetables to the Pavlodar region, as well as to central and northern Kazakhstan, with part of its output exported to Russia.
The complex now produces around 15,000 tonnes of cucumbers and tomatoes annually. The new greenhouse, set to open in October 2026, will focus solely on tomato cultivation. The project is valued at 8 billion tenge (about €15 million) and will add 120 new jobs, bringing total employment to over 500 people.
The expansion includes the installation of LED lighting systems optimized for tomato growth, improving energy efficiency and production stability. Despite automation, manual work remains vital for plant maintenance and harvesting.
Pavlodar region currently hosts three major industrial greenhouse complexes covering more than 30 hectares, which collectively supplied over 10,000 tons of vegetables last year. The sector benefits from state support, including subsidies for electricity and heating costs.
Once fully operational by December 2026, the new facility is expected to produce up to 20,000 tonnes of tomatoes annually. Plans are also underway for two additional greenhouses of 10–15 hectares each within the next two years.
