Tenerife government launches awareness program for greenhouse waste management

The Tenerife government has garnered the majority of support to launch this initiative, which aims to contribute to "the maintenance of the island's landscape, the protection of the environment, and the sustainability of the agricultural sector in Tenerife." The Cabildo of Tenerife will develop a campaign to support and raise awareness about the collection and subsequent recycling of greenhouse waste, particularly focusing on those that are in an advanced state of abandonment.

The island government will promote this initiative with the intention of creating a campaign that includes the joint participation of producers, agricultural associations, manufacturers, authorised waste management entities, and public administrations.

This proposal was presented by the Cabildo government to the Plenary Commission of the Primary Sector, which took place today (Friday 24), receiving the backing of the majority with the aim of "minimising management costs and the environmental impact of greenhouse waste."

Through this proposal, "the goal is to contribute to the protection of the environment, public health, and the sustainability of the agricultural sector in Tenerife, aligning with the objectives of a circular economy and sustainable rural development."
